Silvia Polivoy
Silvia lives and works in Itacare, Brazil where she leads the Vine Center. She is a pioneer in the use ayahuasca in a trans-denominational context for non-native peoples. She has been investigating modified states of consciousness for over 30 years. Silvia has carried out field research in Mexico with Mazatec shamans, has worked extensively with Ayahuasca, San Pedro cactus, and other sacred plants in their native habitats.
Silvia has a postgraduate degree in clinical psychology. For more than 20 years she had a private practice in Buenos Aires, starting with psychoanalysis and later transactional analysis and transpersonal psychology, and much later shamanism and spiritual practices.
Since 1996, she has been hosting group retreats in both the Peruvian and the Brazilian Amazon. At these retreats participants have the opportunity to “meet” the ancient plant teacher ayahuasca in it’s natural environment – the jungle.
South American ayahuasca shamanism is the realm of men. Silvia is a pioneer modeling the ethical leadership of ayahuasca retreats by women.
In 2004, Silvia co-founded The Vine Spiritual Center in the Atlantic forest of Bahia, Brazil, a space created to hold retreats for those interested in spiritual pursuits.
Silvia’s work is now in the spiritual realm, integrating her expertise in psychology, modified states of consciousness, shamanism, and other spiritual practices. An effective method for spiritual development and ayahuasca integration is the current focus of her work and the core of her workshops during the ayahuasca retreats.
